Faro has an international airport with connections to many European cities. There are train and bus connections to Lisbon (3 hours) and Oporto (6 hours). Sevilla, in Spain, is 2 hours by car.

​By Plane

The closest airport is Faro Airport (FAO). You can get direct flights to Faro Airport or via Lisbon from most places.
The airport is 6 km from the city center at 6,5 km. To get to the city centre and back to the airport you can get a bus number 16 or taxi.
Bus 16: the bus fare is 2.20€ one way for a 15 min trip. It can be bought  from the bus driver and the bus runs from 5.20 am to 00.10 am. The stop is located to the left after exiting the terminal, near the short stay car park, the bus stop is in the opposite direction to the taxi rank. 

Taxi: The taxi transfer from the airport to Faro city center will cost about 15€. There will be an extra fee for luggage.

Uber: Uber - Uber operates in Portugal and can be called using the usual app. Uber cars are identified by a small TVDE sign normally on the front or back window .

With the National Railway (Caminhos de Ferro de Portugal) services one can travel from Faro to Lisbon in 3 hours and from Faro to Oporto in 5 hours. Faro train station is localized at the city center.

By Bus

Another option is to use the bus that connect Faro to the rest of the country as well as Europe. A bus from Lisbon to Faro takes around 3 hours. The bus terminal station is located in the city center. For further information about schedules and destinations, please click:

By car

A network of motorways connect Faro to Lisbon (A22, A2), and Andalusia (A22; to Sevilla, Cadiz, Cordoba), in Spain. Tolls must be paid on motorways. In the A22 when entering the Algarve from Spain valid ticket must be purchased at the electronic booth. Check here how. For car rentals in Portugal this is not an issue.
